Macquarie University Australian Football Club

About Us

Founded in 1969, Macquarie University Australian Football Club (MUAFC) competes at all levels of the AFL Sydney competition across both Men's & Women's teams welcoming players of all skill levels & experience. MUAFC is a volunteer-run sporting club with a proud history inside Sydney AFL and has enjoyed consistent on & off-field success throughout our +55 year history.

  • Originally known as the "Kookas" during the Green & Gold era of Macquarie University, it wasn't until 1998 that the club won it's first premiership, winning a 3x peat in '98 '99 '00 and again winning a first grade men's flag in 2009. In 2025 our Mens team again tasted victory in what is shaping up as a new era of success for the Macquarie AFL Mens program.
  • A women's team was established in 2012 with Macquarie being one of the inaugural teams in the new Sydney AFL structure, winning our first Womens premiership in 2013 and again in 2019, led by the inaugural GWS Captain and Macquarie University AFL Life Member, Amanda Farrugia. A very different side than those inaugural teams now takes the park each weekend, chasing their own part of history.

The club will field two Men's and two Women's teams in 2026, with trainings hosted at University Oval on Tuesdays & Thursdays 7-830pm and Games played Saturdays across Sydney from April to September, plus a wide range of social events.
